Pedro Cabrita Reis asks to be called simply Cabrita, a name that derives from the purification process applied to his work. At 65, he sees himself as he always has: a painter pursuing perfection, or "a painter who does some good sculptures", a description he uses whilst talking about a career distinguished by individualism, admiration for the classics, and the comparative pleasures of painting, a good cigar and conversation with friends. He defines it as a celebration of life.
