Sponsored by Vanguard Properties, the largest installation by Brazilian artist Ernesto Neto is on display at MAAT – Museu da Arte, Arquitetura e Tecnologia in Lisbon until October 2024.
Curated by Jacopo Crivelli Visconti, “Nosso Barco Tambor Terra” invites MAAT’s visitors to immerse themselves in Neto’s installation, which aims to create a dialogue between the architectural space of the museum and the Tagus River.
To represent the Portuguese caravels that once departed for what would later be known as the Americas, Neto used Brazilian materials and symbols, such as native cotton fabric like chita, as well as unique floral and plant figures to build and decorate the large-scale enchanting sculpture.
“Nosso Barco Tambor Terra” also incorporates musical elements. In line with the artist's desire to create a genuinely collective and diverse work, the installation features drums of various types and origins that visitors to the exhibition are encouraged to play.
